Orthodontic Treatment

A correct diagnosis tells you what the problem is. A correct treatment plan tells you how to solve it.

Orthodontic Treatment is a structured treatment-planning course by Dr. Omar Yousry that focuses on the clinical decision-making required once a complete orthodontic diagnosis has been established.

The course begins with the fundamental treatment-planning questions: Does the patient need treatment? Is this the correct time to start? And what type of treatment is appropriate?

Once orthodontic tooth movement is selected as the treatment approach, the course moves into one of the most critical decisions in orthodontics: extraction versus non-extraction treatment, including which teeth to extract and how the anchorage requirements of the case should be planned. The course emphasizes that the extraction decision is a major treatment-planning step that should be based on the complete diagnosis rather than on a single finding. 5- Orthodontic treatment

You will then learn how these principles are applied to the management of Class I, Class II, and Class III cases, using the patient's skeletal pattern, dental compensation, crowding, overjet, overbite, incisor inclination, growth status, and available space to guide treatment decisions.

The final section focuses on Anchorage Planning and common orthodontic cases, helping you connect the diagnosis, extraction decision, tooth movement, and anchorage requirements into a coherent treatment plan. 5- Orthodontic treatment

The course also defines the clinical finishing goals of treatment: aligned and leveled teeth, appropriate overjet and overbite, a corrected midline, harmonious occlusion, acceptable facial and smile appearance, and a stable canine relationship. 5- Orthodontic treatment

The goal is not to memorize a treatment recipe for each malocclusion — but to learn how to think through the case systematically.

Orthodontic Treatment

  • Build a systematic orthodontic treatment-planning workflow
  • Connect the Problem List directly to treatment decisions
  • Understand treatment need, timing, and treatment type
  • Differentiate orthodontic treatment from orthopedic and orthognathic approaches
  • Understand when dental camouflage may be considered
  • Make extraction versus non-extraction decisions more logically
  • Understand which teeth may be selected for extraction
  • Plan anchorage according to the objectives of the case
  • Understand treatment strategies for Class I cases
  • Plan treatment for Class II cases
  • Plan treatment for Class III cases
  • Use crowding, overjet, overbite, incisor inclination, and skeletal pattern in decision-making
  • Understand the importance of canine relationship and final occlusion
  • Apply treatment-planning principles to common clinical cases

Orthodontic Treatment

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Build an orthodontic treatment plan from a complete diagnosis
  • Evaluate treatment need and patient readiness
  • Select the appropriate treatment type
  • Recognize cases suitable for orthodontic tooth movement and camouflage
  • Make more informed extraction decisions
  • Determine which teeth may need extraction
  • Understand the relationship between extraction and anchorage
  • Plan treatment for Class I malocclusions
  • Plan treatment for Class II malocclusions
  • Plan treatment for Class III malocclusions
  • Assess dental compensation before choosing tooth movement
  • Use cephalometric findings in treatment decisions
  • Set clear treatment objectives for alignment, overjet, overbite, midline, canine relationship, and occlusion
  • Apply anchorage planning to common orthodontic cases
